The Finnish Social Forum consisted of a total of 60 events and brought
\ntogether about 1300 participants. <\/p>\n
The two-day event dealt extensively
\nwith the environmental crisis, poverty and livelihood, racism and
\ndiscrimination, alternative economic models and conflicts in both
\nUkraine and Western Sahara. The program was debating, participatory and
\nfunctional. This year’s specialty was a rich coverage of games that made
\nit possible to find an adventure in a mental health club, try out asylum
\nbureaucracy and reflect on the future of society.<\/p>\n
An Indian documentary filmmaker, Rahul Jain, who participated in the
\nforum, said that younger he knew the disadvantages of the world but did
\nnot know that they could be solved. – Through such forums, I see that I
\nmay not be alone with my thoughts, Jain said at the conclusion of the
\nSocial Forum.<\/p>\n
Mohamed Sulaiman Labat, born and raised in the Western Sahara refugee
\ncamp, faced asylum seekers in the debate organized by Justice Live. The
\narrival from the Sahara deserts to Helsinki is an exotic experience. –
\nIt was touching and empowering to meet people who also fight for their
\nlives here in Finland, Mohamed said at the Finnish Social Forum’s at
\nArbis in Helsinki.<\/p>\n
The Social Forum was held for the seventh time. It is part of the global
\nsocial forum movement. The forum was also implemented this year mainly
\nby volunteering, a joint effort of NGOs.<\/p>\n
